CARD BOX WITH ROULETTE WHEEL INSET

Characteristics

Musical Card Box with Roulette Wheel Inset
Mid 20th Century

A charming and unusual wooden card box, thoughtfully combining practical storage with playful novelty through its roulette wheel inset lid and integrated wind-up musical mechanism. Beautifully crafted with contrasting timbers, this distinctive piece offers both decorative appeal and conversation-starting character.

The gently domed lid is formed from a richly toned hardwood and centred with a miniature roulette wheel, neatly recessed into the surface and providing an eye-catching focal point. The contrasting lighter wood body is elegantly shaped with curved sides, lending the box a soft, sculptural profile that complements its mid-century styling.

Opening on brass hinges, the lid reveals a spacious interior ideal for storing playing cards, bridge accessories, gaming counters, or other small treasures. Concealed within the base is a wind-up musical movement, adding a delightful extra feature and enhancing the box’s novelty value.

Whether displayed on a coffee table, sideboard, or games room cabinet, this attractive box serves equally well as a decorative object and practical storage piece.

Presented in very good vintage condition. The lid displays a couple of very small surface scratches, as visible in the photographs, together with light age-related wear consistent with careful use. The interior is clean and well preserved, and the piece displays beautifully.
