Created in 2011 as part of the acclaimed Ghosts of Gone Birds project, the work forms part of a wider artistic collaboration highlighting species lost through human activity.

Rendered with loose, fluid brushwork and delicate washes of blue, grey and black, Steadman captures the bird with remarkable personality and presence. The simplicity of the composition allows the viewer to focus on the solitary figure, creating a quietly moving tribute to a vanished species. The artist's distinctive mark-making and subtle humour are balanced by an underlying sense of loss, making the image both visually engaging and thought-provoking.

Produced on Somerset 330gsm paper and published by Jealous, London, this artist's proof is presented in a contemporary black frame and remains in excellent condition

Technical Information

Date: 2011
Sheet: 500 x 405 mm.
Frame: 565 x 465 mm.
